The chilling, violent bile spewing forth from McCain-Palin audiences has yet to be halted by the principal rally speakers. With introductions referring to Senator Obama as "Barack Hussein Obama"--an obvious ploy to raise doubts and suggest Muslim leanings, these speeches incite angry, agitated revelers to yell the following--and this is only what's been captured on tape so far.
"He's a one-man terror cell"
"Kill him!"
"Off with his head!"
"Treason!"
And perhaps most shockingly, from a child whose mother totes a Barack Obama doll and shakes it at the camera, "You need gloves to touch him"....Undoubtedly, the twisted ritual in this woman's home is to indoctrinate her child with such hatred he believes he can not touch this doll without gloves.
I am sickened, horrified and furious. McCain and Palin are fully aware of their poisonous rhetoric, and while they quietly condemn it in press releases, they burst onto the stage every day and continue the steady work of implying Barack Obama, a senator, and the first African American man to be voted President of the Harvard Law Review and candidate for President--is a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer. It is revolting and maddening and despicable behavior that brings shame to our country. With the twisted history of asassinations in this country--from JFK to RFK to MLK--this sort of hate speech is unconscionable. In what should be a time of pride that our country has moved to a place of equality and understanding, we face the very real possibility that this man, Obama, could meet a violent end at the hands of someone who was led to believe he hates our country. And if--God forbid--it happened, the two principals on the Republican ticket will have to live with the knowledge that they too have blood on their hands.
