Another curious move by the McCain campaign & Palin handlers. After weeks of limiting her audiences & interviews to the most favorable groups possible, they're going to put her in front of...Philadelphia sports fans?
This is going to be delicious.
VP candidate Palin to drop puck at Flyers' home opener
So the Palintron is going to drop the puck at a Flyers game on Saturday night. If you're not a sports fan, let me give you a sense of what that means.
Philly Fan is widely regarded as one of the most angry, vocal, and generally toughest Fans in sports. Philly Fan is avidly devoted to his team in good times, but has suffered through 25 years without a title in any major sport, adding a self-loathing and bitter defensiveness to the existing tough-guy bundle. And the rage that emanates from Philly Fan is indiscriminate in its target.
Famously, in 1968, Philly Fan threw snowballs at Santa Claus.
But, most importantly for Saturday, Philly Fan booes mercilessly. Philly Fan booes his own team and the other team. He booes the punter. He booes the mascot.
Not that he doesn't cheer. He cheered as Michael Irvin lay motionless on the turf with a career-ending neck injury, for instance. But booing is what Philly Fan does best, and it's the first word that comes into a sports fan's mind when the topic comes up.
I'm sure it looked good on paper: put the Hockey Mom at a Hockey Game in a Swing State. What can go wrong?
I think we're about to find out.
