I just saw a report on MSNBC of missle strikes in Pakistan today targeting Al Queda strongholds. There have been several reports lately of forays into the area between Afghanistan and Pakistan by special ops. It is pretty evident that these targeted attacks have increased in the last month and a concentrated effort is being made to take out major Al Queda operatives before the election. This raises the question of what effect a possible hit on Bin Laden would have on McCain's bid for the Presidency.
We have all heard McCain brag numerous times during the primary and general about his 'plan' to get Bin Laden. At the last debate he stomped up and down and swore he would get him and he knew how.
This makes me wonder if the events occuring in Pakistan as recently as today are a real effort to try and turn the tide of the election for McCain. If they managed to somehow 'report' a successful hit on Bin Laden, McCain would probably claim the victory as his own. I can just see this big announcement that he had huddled with his 'best bud' Patreus and cooked up this strategy he has been bragging about.
Given Barack's surge in the polls, Palin's melt-down, and the economic disaster, this is the only thing left. I just don't put it past the Bushies to try really hard for this hit and give credit to the old dude to try and push him over the top. Dubya of course would share in the victory to try and salvage his wrecked legacy. Could this be the only October "hail Mary" left?
