So, there has been a lot of diaries around here proclaiming the end of the republican party and the election for Obama. Sorry, to rain on the parade but hold the celebrations-there is still a republican party around which is still smearing Obama and we can't afford to act self-satisfied with an election to win in 25 days!
Everyone, however much I hate the republican party for what it has become under Bush and however much we see it fracturing , it still essentially is together officially and they know how to steal elections. So until Obama has been declared president by all and sundry, really we cannot afford to let up in our efforts now. When that happens,I will pop the cork on that cheap bottle of champagne and really let loose and I hope the diaries here will be plentiful with joy and exhilaration. Until then, let the good poll numbers only spur us on to donate more, phonebank more, volunteer more, tell your family why Obama is good for them and the country, write letters, post diaries ;)and so forth.
If we let up now and say a scandal for the dems hit or McCain however improbably wins back independents, the hope and joy of this campaign will all have been for nothing. Because every single vote counts and while some people will see beyond his race, some will see nothing but it however much the economy hits them or McCain or Palin prove how incompetent they are. So cancelling out their negative vote with another positive one will have to dealt with. Please always remember the pain of the last few years and how painful it was to lose to good candidates for the presidency to one bad one who is not worthy of the title President of the United States of America. And try to imagine how You should feel if you fail to get a great man and leader of a movement Barack Obama elected. The hurt will be painful at the concession speech and just imagine flipping over the channel to President John McCain mumbling about how he was down in the polls last month 'but we proved the naysayers wrong'. And then you vomit.
You realise people have voted out of fear and not for the best candidate and you realise you will actually have to experience Palin for four years. That's when you decide to emigrate.
I think the better attitude is Obama's. He said in an interview that a month in politics is a long time and we should beware of saying that he will definitely definitely win-cautiousness is the name of the game. Also his reaction to winning primaries in the fight with Hillarn should be noted.
An Obama staffer rushed in to tell Obama that he and won a primary that they had not been expected to win due to its mainly white population. Obama had been on the phone and barely lifted an eyebrow to the news and just continued working on the next battle. An attitude that we should emulate because if and when we get the white house the country will have to be fixed and We need someone working for us and not against us when we get that . Personally, I wouldn't trust the McCain/Palin to run anything and to chiefly look out for themselves. We need Obama/Biden in the white house to actually work in the best interests of the country.
