There's all this cool stuff at the auction. There are some amazing deals, but with people bidding, the stuff is still very reasonably priced, but not insanely so.
Have you seen what Bush has done to the economy? Well, not just Bush--the whole Republican ethos of deregulation? I need insanely cheap bargains. So whatever you do, don't go bid at the auction.
Don't look at that customizable, on-line training offered by the Alliance for Justice on advocacy for Non-Profits In this economy, you're better of saving the money for a subsistence farming course. Who has time to care about justice and fairness and the law? Just close this diary and go shopping. At Wal-Mart.
I mean it! I had the best deal on a suite at the Westin hotel for the convention for half of what it would have for a regular hotel room, and now some nitwit had to bid it up to what a regular hotel room costs. Still cheaper than buying a suite, but I can't afford a suite.
And, the cookies of Mass Destruction? I was going to enjoy them. (Actually, I was going to donate them to the staff room at Netroots nation!) But no, someone had to bid up the cost.
Now, I know that some people will say "but the money goes to such a good cause!" Some people think me getting cheap Christmas gifts isn't as important as keeping registrations affordable, helping develop a Greener convention, with ideas that can be used by other conventions as well, or giving us all a chance to meet face to face, recharge our batteries and work tirelessly to keep the newly elected Obama administration accountable on the issues we care about. But there is this great jewelry! I totally wanted that Antique Czech necklace!
And the once in a lifetime opportunities? Those should be MY lifetime people. I wanted to meet Wes Clark and Lawrence Lessig. And I already can't afford to bid on those.
And, I've been outbid on the Small Business Consultation. I may bid again because with the economy the way it is, I need to get my tutoring business off the ground!
And all these cool collectibles. Barbara Boxer Boxer shorts? Autographed by Senator Boxer? I volunteered on her first campaign and always regretted not buying a pair then. And, for the Candidate you'd most like to have a beer with, Brian Schweitzer beer glasses?
And why buy an autographed copy ofPelosi's book for women to know their power? That wouldn't make a good present a women involved in politics. They only want to hear it from Sarah Palin.
So stop visiting the auction. Please people. I work for New York city. I can't afford expensive presents this year. I want everything at this auction to myself!
