I don't think I'm the only one who is feeling depleted by the long and intense campaign. Hasn't it seemed like much longer than two years? My obsessive attention to Kos, the other sites, the polls, MSNBC, the papers, the magazines, the debates, the bumper stickers and yard signs has worn me plumb out. I'm anxious about election day and whatever might blow up before then.
I know that after the election, the real work will start. Wars, financial systems, health care, tax fairness, energy, and on and on and on....
But after election day and before the aftermath, I think we are going to need a party.
If Obama and Biden win, obviously, there will be joy in Mudville. We'll have a huge reason to celebrate.
And if the election is stolen -- again -- there will be huge reasons to commiserate and drown our sorrows.
Either way, some fun and humor will be in order.
One way to have some fun, I figure, would be through creative alcohol use. Let's invent some new drinks to commemorate the election and the principals.
Here are the ideas I've had so far:
The Maverick: Old Granddad and Metamucil with a dash of bitters.
The Baracktoberfest: Black & Tan and Half & Half served over ice in a tall glass, garnished with a leaf of arugula.
The Hockey Mom: Yukon Jack and Kool-Aid. Rim the glass with lipstick.
The Joe Biden: white wine.
The Hillary: Rolling Rock with a shot of Crown Royal.
The Cindy: Bud Lite, served in a stemmed crystal glass and garnished with an Oxycontin tablet.
The Huckabee: Southern Comfort with a splash of Red Bull.
Okay, Kossaks, please submit your suggestions. Cheers!
