It's October 12th. As I recall, the election will be won by the person that garners the most electoral college votes on November 4th. I've noticed that there's a fair amount of triumphalism and conceit on display here but with 24 days to go...I think the party ought not yet get started...
The Dow lost over 20% of its value in a week. Bear Stearns went bankrupt over a weekend. Washington Mutual went insolvent in a day. Exaggerations? Perhaps. But I don't hear any fat ladies singing yet.
If you think this election's "in the bag", my only advice to you is -

There's still three weeks of this slog left and I guarantee you, it won't be a cakewalk. The McCain campaign has not given up. They are even still spending in Michigan - even though they have withdrawn. They are going to keep trying different tactics until they find something that sticks. Maybe they will - maybe they won't. Every vote will count in this election and there are no certainties. Not until November 5th.
