We know from Sam Stein's piece at HuffPo that the Obama campaign brought in $66 million in August.
He also informs us that he has it on good word that Obama surpassed that total in September.
Think about that for a minute folks. His appeal is broadening. His lead is growing, and this in the face of the most vile attacks we've seen in recent American politics. Money talks, right? And this time, it's not BIG money that's doing the talking. It's little money like ours.
We're 3 weeks away from Nov 4th. Wouldn't it be great if we dedicated ourselves to making a HUGE statement that we are not complacent in spite of our mounting lead? That we take nothing for granted? That we're going to make one hell of last push to get Barack Obama and as many Dems possible elected this year?
Now, personally, I'm in a bit of a dilemma over this. Do I give to Obama or do I give to the DNC to help as many Democratic candidates as my little bit of money can possibly help? So the poll below is meant to help advise me and any other people who still have the passion to keep giving until we win. How do we get the most bang for our buck at this stage in the game?
There's not much time left. Does it even matter at this point? Is it important even at a symbolic level? I want to give one last time, where will my $25 or $50 (and yours) make the most difference?
I know that there are other ways of giving, but some of us have more money than we have time to donate. I've volunteered a bit at the local Obama office, not as much as I'd have liked to, but I've got a ton of responsibilities at work and at home. Accept my mea culpa on the time issue or not, I've got enough cash to make one more small donation, and I want to do it because I'm sick of losing. I'm sick of knowing what's best for our country, only to see low-information voters or mis-information / dis-information voters beat us, with the help of the cheating bastards who ARE the GOP.
I am convinced that John McCain and Sarash Palin would be even worse for our country than Bush and Cheney, if that's possible. But I'm not voting for Barack Obama because I don't want McCain/Palin at the helm. I'm voting for Obama because I think he's the right person, in the right place, at the right time. I started this campaign season as an Edwards supporter. After John left the race, I did my homework on Obama and started listening to his message. Even bearing in mind that I'm much further to the left than he is on many issues, he is the best candidate that I will ever have had the privilege of voting for. I think he's incredibly smart and has alot of good basic ideas on how to turn this country around. Most importantly, he'll appoint other really smart people to the right positions in his administration. He'll put the right people on the bus, just like he has with this campaign. If he runs the country as well as he's run his campaign, I think we're going to get that CHANGE WE NEED, that CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN. At the same time, I also recognize that we can make his job a heck of alot easier by voting in as many other Democrats as we can. A filibuster-proof Congress would be ideal.
Can we muster one more BIG Dkos show of support? If so, should we try to make a collective decision on how we can best spend our money? I'll post a poll and let the rest of you determine where I'll send my money. I hope the rest of you will join me in following the majority.
