It is a rare day that I enjoy a Kristol column. In fact, I think that this one is the first. It is difficult to resist the charms of a column devoted to describing the slow motion implosion of the McPain campaign as it crumbles before our very eyes.
The McCain campaign, once merely problematic, is now close to being out-and-out dysfunctional. Its combination of strategic incoherence and operational incompetence has become toxic.
Wow - couldn't have said it better myself.
Kristol, however, remains - how can I say this nicely? - delusional.
He begins by suggesting, in his title no less, that McPain needs to:
Fire the Campaign
That wouldn't be such a bad start - if only the ticket itself got fired too. (And worry not, I think it's about to be by the American people.) But I digress.
Kristol goes on to say:
The hope for McCain and Palin is that they still have pretty good favorable ratings from the voters. The American people have by no means turned decisively against them.
Wow - does he really believe that? If so, what are his thoughts on Mary Poppins, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy? And perhaps I have a bridge to Brooklyn to sell that might interest him.
So . . . there you have it . . . the world according to Kristol. But don't take my word for it - read the article for yourself. It's delicious!
