For the past year sense I drank the Obama kool-aid and jumped on the Change band wagon, I have been working locally and financially to do my small part to help get Obama election. Over the course of that Time i have done nothing but Eat,sleep and drank everything that is Obama and this race. If you ask anyone in my family they will tell you I am a faithful and extreme Obama supporter.
I grew up in Atlanta Ga, born in 1958, a black girl who watched her 6 foot 4 father hold his head down and say "yes sir", every time he was addressed as "Boy" by a white person. Strange how little things like that seem to stay with you, even when you are grown and have 2 children who's father is white such as I do. And not to get off my point or spend to much time in the past, but to say that though I am black and voting for Obama I have white family and friends whom i love dearly so I am not at all bias towards the colors.
I am very aware of where I have come from. And now to be 50 and finally see a black man this close to the Oval office is almost more than I can sometimes contain and or bare. Stay with me over the fold, as I am trying to make a point for sure.
If you ask any one in my family or circle of friends, black or white they will all tell you I am a loyal, extreme Obama supporter. They will tell you that i canvase, I phone bank, I started a Obama prayer group at Barackobama.com, and I give every extra dime i have towards this campaign, and it's efforts.
They will tell you that i write 2-3 continual blogs on my website daily and keep a log of almost every thing that goes on in and with this compaign. They will tell you that Daily Ko's is the place i reccomend to anyone looking to the left for the most information on the subject of this election and Obama in particular.
They will tell you that i buy t-shirts and yard signs and demand that my family and friends use them. They will tell you that If they need any kind of information on voter registration or what's going on with the daily news concerning Obama they call me first.
They will tell you that I can not make it through a day with out saying Obama's name or some conversation with him in it, so don't call me if you don't want to talk about Obama.
I am sold out and I cry when i think of the great words by people like John F. Kennedy who said things like one day there would be a black president, or Martin. L King for all he did.( They did not die invain)
I cry when i consider November 5. and waking up to learn that Obama is the president elect.
( No I will not put myself through the night of Nov. 4th, I will try and take a blue sleeping pill or 2 and pray I wake up to the change we so need)
Here we are 20 something days away and it really looks like this is going to happen. My heart fully believes it will happen, yet my head is quite dizzy everyday with the thought of what if it doesn't.
Then lately I read a few diary headlines like "It's Over". "Obama landslide". "10 point poll lead" blah blah blah and I get sooooooooo happy. My feet almost leave the ground.
So to ground myself I go over to redstate.com and a few other right wing blogs and read what they are saying, what they are thinking. And they have smears and links and such, and by the time i am through I come out feeling so depressed and down. But it's my reality check.
I also go back into the archives here over the 2004 race. And i read the same kinds of post in there( Kerry ahead...Kerry will win and such like.. where Kerry was concerned, and we know how that turned out.
It's how i keep myself focused. Each time i come out of there i know i have to fight a little harder, donate a little more and keep the hope alive. Try it some times when you want to rest on the It's over and Obama landslide blogs. yes they are good and I love reading them, but don't sit on it. Dream of it and hope for it, but don't sit on it. So Just some food for thought.
But I also know that this time is not the same, this time the need for change is greater, the rethugs have had their 8yrs and it's just time for us to take back the white house. Simon says? No Obama says it's time and the people say it's time. But most of all History say's it's time.
It's not over til it's over, and a landslide would be awesome, but personally i would settle for a bare win. And you best believe the right is, as I type, trying to find "an october surprise".
