Looks like the tough times are coming with some pretty big job losses. No doubt many of the folks here will be trying to start new businesses.
This isn't a usual topic for dKos, but I thought the article was striking enough to feature in a diary. For as little as $25, someone with no Internet expertise can launch a little ad campaign on MySpace---targeted directly at people who have indicated they are interested in the sort of product they are selling. Seems somewhat revolutionary.
MySpace gives little guys online ad muscle
A "MyAds" platform available at https://advertise.myspace.com provides simple tools for garage bands, small businesses or anyone else to reach out to audiences they feel will be receptive to their messages.
The platform guides people through the process of designing ads and then launches advertising campaigns with budgets as low as 25 dollars.
MySpace gets 25 cents each time someone "clicks" on Internet links build into display ads, meaning a budget of 25 dollars could last until 100 people visited an advertiser's website.
"This is democratizing the online display market and opening it up to the 20 million-plus small businesses in the United States, millions of bands and thousands of politicians looking for votes in November," MySpace spokesman Jeff Berman told AFP.
