Barack's economic speech today was concise and courageous. Not only did he go point by point through his ideas for long and short term emergency measures but spoke directly to the nation about personal debt and living within our means.
It takes a real leader with courage to bring up this subject of credit excess in our society. He did not, of course, admonish anyone in a harsh, condemning tone. That is not his style. He acknowledged that many people had debt for reasons beyond their control. Paying medical bills and just making ends meet by putting tuition payments (saw myself there!) and everyday expenses like gas and food on their plastic.
What he DID say (something that McCain hasn't the courage to say) is that once we get past this immediate crisis, which will take some time, we need to start living within our means.
He mentioned saving! What a novel idea! It was something my parents and their parents did. It is something I need to do more of. The man just makes so much sense and speaks to people respectfully but forcefully about how we can improve our nation and economy.
I did not hear this part of the speech mentioned on any major news source. Granted it may not be the most popular theme, but it is a necessary part of our future economic repair. The thought of an Obama administration led by this man who can inspire and lead with such grace and steel makes my heart soar. It is just unbelievable to me that everyone can't see him as so many of us do. Leading our country as the next great American President.
