Well I guess it's official now. We've been hearing this morning how Grumpy was likely to bring up Ayers in this last debate:
“I was astonished to hear him say that he was surprised that I didn’t have the guts” to bring up Ayers, McCain said on KMOX, a St. Louis radio station.
“I think he is probably ensured that it will come up this time.”
but I wasn't sure whether they were really going to go all in on this. Until now. More below the fold....
In response to a video message from David Plouffe in which he condemns Palin's remarks that "our opponent is someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.", Camp McCain is going all in with this just released memo:
“This much is clear: Barack Obama and William Ayers were friends before that relationship became a political embarrassment for the Illinois Senator–Obama did pal around with a terrorist. According to his campaign, Barack Obama no longer believes Ayers has been rehabilitated. And William Ayers did target his own country. So what part of Governor’s Palin’s remarks are ‘beyond the pale.’ Perhaps Mr. Plouffe does not like Governor Palin’s inference that Barack Obama palled around with Ayers because Barack Obama has a different view of America than most of us. Yet the Obama campaign has offered no alternate explanation–they have not conceded that the relationship was simply the result of a serious error in judgment.
“The only thing ‘beyond the pale’ here is the Obama campaign’s failure to explain how it is that Barack Obama carried on a decade long friendship with a man who sought to topple the U.S. government through violence.”–Michael Goldfarb, McCain-Palin Spokesman
I thought they were backing off, but it's game on. Barack has had plenty of time to reflect on just the right answer to this at tomorrow's debate. I'm tired of trying to second guess him, because he always exceeds my expectations. But I think if he plays his cards right, this can blow up in McCain's face big time. Anyway, I'm glad my son's Cub Scout Pack is selling Popcorn this time of year!
