What next? Will Christopher be writing articles for dkos? And would a front pager of the Huffingtonpost be canned if they went in the tank for a republican? Oh, no, that's right. They allow OTHER POVs from their writers.
And yes, this probably isn't going to be long enough for a real diary but still, it's pretty interesting to see that The National Review kicked Christopher Buckley to the curb. after he wrote a column endorsing Obama (that endorsement appeared in Daily Beast, not NRO)
He wrote about his experience in The Daily Beast. And really, you should go read it because Christopher Buckley is a very funny guy. (His book, Thank You for Smoking, made me laugh out loud in the waiting room of an oncologist's office)
Here's a bit of what happened after he endorsed Obama
As for the mail flooding into National Review Online—that’s been running about, oh, 700-to-1 against. In fact, the only thing the Right can’t quite decide is whether I should be boiled in oil or just put up against the wall and shot. Lethal injection would be too painless.
During the sh**tstorm, Buckley suggested he quit the National Review and his boss was very quick to agree that might be a good plan. I don't see why: his article had to have brought in new readers. And true conservatives must be mourning to lose one of the funniest Republicans from their ranks.
So, to paraphrase a real conservative, Ronald Reagan: I haven’t left the Republican Party. It left me.
Thanks, anyway, for the memories, and here’s to happier days and with any luck, a bit less fresh hell.
Hey Mr. Buckley, your dad would be proud of you. Seriously.
