I was struck the other day when I saw a sign at a McCain rally that read: Obama bin lying.
I have been volunteering for the Obama campaign in Pennsylvania and on Sunday we were assigned to the Clinton-Biden rally in Scranton. No signs were allowed inside.
I was struck the other day when I saw a sign at a McCain rally that read: Obama bin lying.
I have been volunteering for the Obama campaign in Pennsylvania and on Sunday we were assigned to the Clinton-Biden rally in Scranton. No signs were allowed inside. If a person wanted to hold up a sign, the local campaign office had actually worked late into the night hand painting signs to be distributed. When I aked why signs weren't permitted, it was explained that if some signs are allowed in, all signs must be allowed in. I guess that makes sense and it especially makes sense not to let people in with signs and then have them display something really hateful or stupid. So is this fairly standard procedure? Do Republicans also ban people from bringing signs inside? If the answer is yes, then it stands to reason, the McCain camp made the Osama bin lying signs.
Also, as to the shouting of hateful rhetoric, it seems to me that the people screaming would have to have some proximity to the stage. These portions of a venue seem to be reserved for local party officials, large donors, campaign personel and those with disabilities. Not necessarily "fringe" elements that nobody knows. Can anybody shed light on how a Republican event works? Thanks
