My husband had on that hideous Greta Van Susteren show this evening, and I was hoping she would just be covering deceased blondes so I could drink my tea in peace, but McCain's new attack showed up with breathless Fox News fanfare. I just wanted to put their latest attack in a diary because they revealed what is next. More guilt by association, more sickening character attacks. And in usual right-wing propaganda form, they bring out a guy that changes wives more often than some people change underwear to defame our candidate.
Newt Gingrich got the call and he was ecstatic about the hidden foreign policy motives he imagined lurking "behind the Obama curtain" being revealed by none other than the Rev. Jesse Jackson. There is something about the Rev. Jackson that just makes the Fox News pundits wet themselves for some reason.
It seems that the Rev. Jackson gave a speech to the World Policy Forum in Evian, France last week, which was reported on by Amir Taheri of the New York Post. And in this speech he discusses the changes that he feels will come about in a Barack Obama administration. Most of what he says is simply nice, like healing wounds with other nations.

He promised "fundamental changes" in US foreign policy - saying America must "heal wounds" it has caused to other nations, revive its alliances and apologize for the "arrogance of the Bush administration."
But then you get to the part that Fox News pulled Newt off the dog track to salivate over. It seems Rev. Jackson put his tinfoil hat on for a segment of his comments:
Jackson believes that, although "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" remain strong, they'll lose a great deal of their clout when Barack Obama enters the White House.
I am grateful that Barack Obama was pro-active in distancing himself from Rev. Jackson's remarks. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, if it means that real news organizations are dismissing this as meaningless) I couldn't find this anywhere but Fox News, and I hate to link to them, but here is their article and the quote from the Obama campaign.

"Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. is not an adviser to the Obama campaign and is therefore in no position to interpret or share Barack Obama's views on Israel and foreign policy," Obama national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi said in a statement.
"As he has made clear throughout his career and throughout this campaign, Barack Obama has a fundamental commitment to a strong U.S.-Israel relationship ... As president, he will ensure that Israel can defend itself from every threat it faces, stand with Israel in its quest for a secure peace with its neighbors, and use all elements of American power to end Iran's illicit nuclear program.
"No false charges can change Barack Obama's unshakeable commitment to Israel's security."
Tucker Bounds went on to spew the same talking points I heard from Newt, saying:
"Literally, nobody knows what Barack Obama's policies would be if he were elected president, but it's very concerning that people believe he will not be a friend to Israel."
I just want to scream when these right-wing scoundrels use the phrase "people believe". What people? Where? Quote a real person who believes your drivel! I believe Barack Obama has made his policies quite clear, and the American people just aren't buying yours.
