Jesse Jackson made some anti-zionists comments and now CNN is running them under "Obama takes hit for Jackson comments". This has the potential of scaring off the jewish vote. According to CNN, Jackson made the comments at the World Policy Forum in Evian, France last week and were quoted Tuesday by New York Post columnist Amir Taheri.
Jackson reportedly said that under an Obama administration, the "Zionists who have controlled American policy for decades" will come to an end and as would America's policy of "of putting Israel's interests first."
"Obama is about change," Jackson said. "And the change that Obama promises is not limited to what we do in America itself. It is a change of the way America looks at the world and its place in it."
Which is of course supposed to be taken as evidence that Obama is lying when he is saying he will not change US policy towards Israel.
Now, forget the fact that comments by Jackson on Obama's policy shouldn't be taken at face value. I am worried that this latest line of attack has the potential of dissuading the jittery jewish voter from backing Obama. Especially older jewish emigres have already had a hard time getting over their mistrust. Any blip of suspicion can be highly damaging. Obama needs to combat this head on, and distance himself from Jackson.
