Let me make this perfectly clear: I trust that Obama will do a great job at tonight's final debate. He'll make me proud to be a supporter and proud to be an American citizen.
That said, here's something that I really want Obama to say tonight. From my perspective as a citizen, an Obama voter and a lifelong observer of politics, I believe this needs to be said.
"I want to know what happened to John McCain."
"When I learned that John McCain would be my Republican opponent, I knew a few things with certainty.
I knew that I strongly disagree with many of his positions from the economy to Iraq. I knew that he'd be a formidable opponent.
I also knew that I respected him, not only for his service to the country in wartime, but for his years of service in the United States Congress.
I was looking forward to the General Election, to debating the critical issues of the day with John McCain.
But that John McCain didn't show up to the General Election. The John McCain who decried slurs against an Arabic-sounding name, the John McCain who vowed to run a positive, issues-based campaign, was left behind in the primary season.
Where is that John McCain?
That John McCain would be embarrassed and saddened by the John McCain campaign of today.
Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to debate, to civilly disagree, to shake hands with that John McCain."
Here's hoping that Obama says something along these lines . . .
