I just saw Tweety's (Chris Matthews for the uninitiated) interview with Governor Patterson of New York. This was one of the most shameful interviews I've ever seen. It was shameful because someone who was not there as an Obama surrogate was put on the spot, and was quizzed, rather than interviewed.
The incident I'm talking about was when Tweety asked the Governor to name one instance in which Obama had reached across the aisle to accomplish something. The Governor said something to the effect that he knew of one thing but couldn't remember. Now you have to wonder; why is Chris Matthews asking his guest a question when already knows the answer. It's not like he was asking his opinion. Matthews knows Obama has co-sponsored bills with Coburn and Lugar that passed.
You really have to wonder what his motivation is? He did the same thing during the primary to an Obama surrogate from Texas. Though at least that guy was on as an Obama surrogate. Governor Patterson was on as the governor of the state where the debate is being held. This is really outrageous.
Getting back to the motivation. Was he trying to make the Governor look stupid? Well, it's not like he sprung the answers on him, or his audience. Was he trying to give the false impression that Obama had never reached across the aisle? Well, he certainly did nothing to inform people of instances that he is certainly aware of.
It's disappointing after all the good will Tweety has accumulated recently. However, between this despicable quizzing of Governor Patterson, and his man-crush softball interview with Mitt Romney, it's safe to say that Tweety is back to his old ways.
