John McCain seems to have nothing but contempt and loathing for women. The evidence has been clear for sometime, but rarely more so than tonight when his disdain for the opposite sex was on full brazen display. In McCain's world, there's seems to be little difference between women and potted plants. I'll explain.
McCain's contempt for women first reared its ugly head during his younger years, when he dumped his car-accident crippled wife for a rich young heiress. She now stands at his side with a vacant smile and wave with gazillion $$ earrings dripping from her head, the perfect eye candy for any politician - with the bonus bank account. There's no doubt he dogged around when he was younger - but in his world, women are to be used and disposed of, as needed.
That kind of behavior wouldn't matter to me today if he was not running for president for the hypocritical Republicans, who are running an adulterer (two?) on their ticket. That leads me to Palin - a pick that was nothing if not contemptuous of women. He apparently thinks ALL women will vote for ANY woman because that's what we do, being too stupid to consider the ISSUES or the intelligence and qualifications of said female candidate. She's an appalling pick on so many levels, all of which have been discussed at length elsewhere.
Tonight, McCain's contempt for women dripped from his lips as he denigrated and demeaned women for wanting to consider their health in making the decision to have an abortion. Being "compassionate" won't compensate for the fact that the government would be FORCING women to carry pregnancies to term, no matter what their situations may be. FORCING! He again apparently believes women cannot make decisions FOR THEMSELVES. Maybe he's making that judgement based on the women around him (wife, Palin). Please recall his evident befuddlement - or just outright indifference - concerning Viagra, birth control and insurance coverage, as well as abstinence-only sex ed - all of which disproportionately impact women.
His argument against intervention in the equal-pay-for-equal-work lawsuit wouldn't hold water in any other of his policy areas. Do you REALLY think we'll see John McCain pulling troops out of Iraq because our UN mandate has expired? To argue AGAINST doing the right thing simply because the statute of limitations expired says a lot about his priorities - both for simply doing the right thing and for the importance he places on the opposite sex. Women are not at the top of his list.
And if you think I'm barking up the wrong tree, start looking specifically for women's reactions to McCain. On CNN, he couldn't seem to get any traction with those female independent dial turners - though EVERYONE tonight, women and men, seem to think he's a snide, angry old guy yelling at everyone to get off his lawn.
His treatment of women, his vile contempt and disdain in dismissing any woman's concerns for her own health, his blatant disregard for equal pay for equal work, his (hidden) dim view of his own running mate (note his boilerplate speech or how far he stands from her when they are together), all of this adds up to his view that women serve about the same purpose on this planet as a potted plant - sit there, look pretty, be quiet - EVEN WHEN THE DOG IS PEEING ON YOU. But don't worry - men will take care of you and tell you want to do, as they think best.
