This could have been blogged before, but did anyone notice the difference in how Obama addressed McCain in the third debate? Obviously McCain is contemptuous of Obama beyond what we usually see in a Presidential debate.
I thought about this a lot today. Everyone knew that for Obama to make McCain angry would stop the show and that's what happened.
I think now, after some reflection, Obama intentionally played upon McCain's perception that he was inherently superior. There is no doubt that a "trying to be polite" John McCain drifted off into 65% insanity as the 90 minutes went on. Obama, after hearing the "That one" comment became even more convinced that McCain was viewing him as just an "uppity field hand".
With that in mind Obama dropped the ADDITIONAL deference and retreated to "appropriate respect / deference. He hammered McCain intellectually (which was made much easier by the fact that the McCain campaign announces what they will do before they do it) while constantly making a point to call him "John" instead of "Senator McCain".
