Well, another relatively sane conservative trying to escape from the vortex of bigotry, fascism and pure lunacy that McCain-Palin have created.
Embattled Republican Sen. Susan Collins is calling on Sen. John McCain to stop paying for automated phone calls which describe Sen. Barack Obama as having "worked closely" with "domestic terrorist Bill Ayers."
"These kind of tactics have no place in Maine politics," said Collins spokesman Kevin Kelley. "Sen. Collins urges the McCain campaign to stop these calls immediately."
Of course Collins is in a re-election battle and would like to limit the damage. How much success that will have, considering she is the co-chair of the McCain campaign in Maine, still has to be seen.
The McCain campaign didn't seem impressed with her plea:
Contacted on Friday by ABC News, the McCain campaign would not say if it was going to heed the request of Collins who serves as his campaign's co-chair in Maine.
"Obviously, Sen. McCain has great respect for Sen. Collins. But beyond that," said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers, "we don't have any comment."
[EDIT]: Or maybe they meant, Sen. McCain has great respect for Sen. Collins but doesn't pay any attention to what women have to say. Wouldn't surprise me.
And her Democratic opponent, Tom Allen, has suggested that she should step down as co-chair if she feels so strongly about the robo-calls.
Well, Susan, jump now or get sucked down with the sinking ship.
Of course McCain doesn't have a chance to win Maine (538 gives him 1% for the state and 2% for District 2), so besides wasting money, the only thing he achieves is putting off the 58% of the voters who are predicted to vote for Obama from splitting their ticket.
