Saw this at FiveThirtyEight and figured I'd pass it along because it's something that we need to look into and stop. Three weeks ago we were up in the polls and we said it'd get ugly. It has.
Over in Indiana, PA and Northern Cambria, PA, volunteers fielded complaints of a massive wave of ugly robocalls both paid for by John McCain's campaign and those paid for by third parties. The third party call was interactive, and purported to be from Barack Obama himself. The call starts out reasonably, and then "Obama" asks what the listener thinks is the most important issue. Whatever the response, "Obama" then launches into a profane and crazed tirade using "n***er" and other shock language.
McCain is using the same tactics to defeat him in 2000 in South Carolina. Whether you want to say the man sold his soul, or as some have argued he never had one and has always been an opportunist, it's easy to see that he is doing nothing different than what Bush did in 2000 and 2004.
There's also the mailer that the GOP sent out conflating images of Barack Obama and Osama bin Laden.
I urge anyone in the Pennsylvania area, if you get one of these phone calls, record it and bring it to the Obama campaign. This is more than just a stupid prank. This is the election being stolen from us.
Well, the Obama campaign just gained another 15 dollars.
Damnit, GOP, now you're making me go broke, and I don't even own stocks! I thought I was safe from your idiocy!
