Although I am a firm believer in Kos's sentiment of "crush their spirit and toss them an anvil", afterward we must take time to try and heal our country. Today I started the healing process.
I live in a retirement community in Arizona. It's age restricted and even though I'm "only" 49 years old, I'm still allowed here, because my wife is over the minimum age of 55. . .
It's a heavily Republican area and while running out for a quick errand I came across a gentlemen walking across the street with a McCain / Palin sign in his hands. I slowed down and asked him if he needed any help with the sign. He said "no". I then told him he had his work cut out for him, but to keep pulling out other peoples Republican signs and we'd be in good shape come November. He paused momentarily and as he began to explain that he had gotten the sign from a neighbor and was going to put it in his own front yard, I slowly pulled away, waving, allowing him to see the many Obama stickers on my windows.
Minutes later, returning home, I came upon the same old gent struggling to place the sign in his own front yard. I pulling over and asked if he needed any help. He said laughingly, "I thought you'd want to help me take it down". I too laughed and told him that win or lose, come November 5th we had a lot of tough challenges to face and work to do. Not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Americans. . .
We shook hands and I drove off. "Crush their spirit, toss them an anvil"... then shake their hand and reunite our country. . .
