I'm a volunteer here in Ohio. Hundreds and hundreds of hours for Kerry, Brown and Strickland and now Obama. I'm one of those true believers, he is the only one, this is his time and place. I got to drive in the motorcade, meet Barack, have my picture taken, signed my book. It was a dream come true, I couldn't have asked for more. But something happened the other day that spoke to me of the millions of people who feel like me.
To make a long story short I'd gotten a parking ticket out side the Obama headquarters because I'd read the sign wrong so I paid it. Later I parked there again because I had a huge tray of sandwiches to take in and I didn't want to carry it blocks. I've had cancer twice in the past year,so it's a little tough. So I parked, took it in and was letting everyone know they were there.
A guy then says, "Hey, someone's ticketing that black car". I run out and tell the woman I was just parking for a minute because I was dropping food off. Blank faced she said "You have a ticket Mam".
Very angry, I went down to ticket bureau and told a older Africian-Ameiican woman my story. By the end I was crying, all my frustrations, the long hours and the illness catching up with me.
She sat silently, took my card and charged me but then got up and came around to the outside. "I just want to give you a hug. This all is petty stuff, you are doing good work and you will be blessed, I know you will be blessed. Don't cry now, forget this and know you're doing the right thing".
I hugged her back, thanked her, surprised but very grateful. These are the people Barack has inspired, people who believe he is destined to be the one.
That's my story.
