I realize that it's freaking late, but some other fellow insomniacs/news junkies/Kossacks in Finland are up, too, and looking for utter crap to read.
So can I just brag about my state for a minute or two? Yes? Thank you!
I'm sure you all have heard that McCain is giving up on Colorado:
While Iowa, New Mexico and Colorado are still officially listed as McCain target states, two top strategists and advisers tell CNN that the situation in those states looks increasingly bleak. Iowa and New Mexico always have been viewed as difficult races, but the similar assessment of Colorado reflects a dramatic shift for a campaign that had long counted on the state.
"Gone," was the word one top McCain insider used to describe those three states.
I know there's a chance that McIdiot could double his spending in Colorado, and that McDouchebag is continuing to buy advertising here, but leave me alone with that kind of talk. I don't want to hear it. I'm on the Optimism Train, baby!
I read another excellent Colorado tidbit in Boulder's main newspaper (the Daily Camera) a couple 3 weeks ago. Go Boulder County!:
Officials are bracing for a potentially unprecedented voter turnout in next month’s general election — and one long night of counting ballots — as an average of 2,000 new voters are registering each day in Boulder County.
In a meeting Tuesday with the Boulder County commissioners, Clerk and Recorder Hillary Hall said her office was flooded with 14,000 new registration requests last week alone.
"We’re going to have a big election here in Boulder County," she said.
Hall said of the 210,000 eligible voters in the county, about 190,000 — greater than 90 percent — are expected to vote Nov. 4.
Isn't that the sickest shit you have ever heard?
As if Colorado weren't cool enough, we have an openly gay man running for a seat in the US House of Reps. His name is Jared Polis, and the following description of him is taken from Wikipedia:
Jared Schutz Polis (born May 12, 1975 in Boulder, Colorado) is an entrepreneur, philanthropist and politician from the state of Colorado. A former chairman of the Colorado State Board of Education, he is the Democratic nominee for the United States House of Representatives in Colorado's 2nd congressional district; the seat being vacated by Mark Udall (D–Eldorado Springs). After winning the primary on 2008-08-12, he is favored to become the first openly gay man elected to the House as a freshman.
It's not 1954 anymore, kids. When did this country start growing up?
Incidentally, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are from Colorado.
Sorry for that annoying thing on the top/at the start of the video there. I hate it when they do that.
We have awesome beauty ...
... and it has been communicated to me that we also have some kickass skiing. I do not ski, nor do I snowboard, but I hear that A Basin is the best. That's what a lot of the natives say, but feel free to fight amongst yourselves in the comments.
Listen, I know that Colorado has spawned Marilyn Musgrave, Focus on the Family, Ted Haggard, Amendment 48, Coors, and John Denver. (Calm down. I am just kidding about Ted Haggard. :P) But we totally redeem ourselves with this picture:
I've been in this state for 11 years now, and while I sometimes still miss the midwest, I never really want to live anywhere else. I'm all about visiting the entire world someday, but there is no better place for me to reside, I must say - I'm completely happy and content here. Perhaps the other DKos Coloradans will be all, "Wtf, man! Too many people are moving here already! Quit talking about how great it is!" But I can't help it. Colorado has matured a lot in the past decade, and I am proud to call it home.
