Say what? Is this news? It might not be, but why not try to get ahead of this one, just in case it's a scoop?
With that in mind, I left the dreaded "BREAKING" tag/title out, but, well, it does seem to be breaking here locally. Skip to my Lou, my darlings, over the fold, and let me know if this is truly newsworthy...
Yes, this is kind of short, but it seems significant, because until yesterday, I'd gotten the impression that the McCain camp had all but written off Florida. I came to this (admittedly layperson) conclusion for a number of reasons, most significantly due to the very-popular Governor Charlie Crist's continued semantic tap-dances around the subject of "McCain/Palin" on the GOP stump circuit.
From the Daytona Beach News-Journal
The Arizona senator plans to stop at Allstar Building Materials Ltd., 1361 N. U.S. 1, Ormond Beach. Doors open at 7 a.m. McCain is expected to take the stage between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.
Hmm. A small business? I'll have to check on that, too.
After reading this diary, by davidkc, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say McLame is trying to stem the rising tide of bad poll numbers, which the FL GOP cannot possibly be helping. What I find to be rather frightening, however, comes from the quote in one of the posted articles in this diary:
"We can do anything for 17 days, and we will," Crist said, urging activists to ramp it up for the final days. "Everything — absolutely everything — to make sure John McCain and Sarah Palin win this thing."
Absolutely everything? This new turn of events has set my bullshit detector to pinging so loud, it almost shattered my living room windows. Let's not take ANYTHING for granted in FL, especially if McCain is suddenly planning a bus tour from Jax to Sarasota. Where will some of his, erm, "close advisors" be tomorrow?
