Another in a series of late-night mental health diaries. This one will focus on the amazing birds of the Okavango Delta of Botswana. I was fortunate enough to travel there earlier this year for a photography vacation. Of course when you plan a trip to Africa you think about the big animals, the cats, the elephants, but the beauty and variety of bird life is stunning.
Thirteen days to go. Take a break, enjoy some birds, and then back to work!
We will start with the scavengers.
Hooded Vulture
African or White Backed Vulture
And to the birds who work a little harder for a living, the raptors.
Fish Eagle
A young Martial Eagle
Tawney Eagle
Another Tawney Eagle
A young Bateleur Eagle
A Pearl Spotted Owlet
Now for a variety of beauties
The common but stunning Lilac Breasted Roller
Senegal Coucal
Crimson Breasted Boubou or Shrike
Long-Tailed Shrike
Now some Storks and Cranes
A Yellow-Billed Stork
Saddle-Billed Stork
Another Saddle-Billed Stork
The endangered Wattled Crane
The heaviest flying bird on earth, the Kori Bustard
A Pied Kingfisher
And we will finish with my two favorites. First the Malachite Kingfisher
And the Little Bee Eater
I hope these helped you relax and refresh yourself for the days ahead. Aloha!
