I would like to bring more light to this subject.
My first language is french, so if someone think they can ake a better diary about this go ahead!
This was adopted about a year ago by the security counsel.
Recognizing the request from Iraq, the Security Council today decided to extend the mandate of the multinational force in that country -- “for the last time”, according to its Permanent Representative -- until 31 December 2008.
Acting under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, the Council unanimously adopted resolution 1790 (2007), deciding further that the mandate would be reviewed at the request of the Government of Iraq or no later than 15 June 2008. The mandate would be terminated earlier if the Iraqi Government requested the Council to do so.
Did you see it written clearly for the last time. This is amazing! The Iraqui governement wants us gone.
“Recognizing the importance of consent of the sovereign Government of Iraq for the presence of the multinational force and of maximum coordination and close partnership between the multinational force and that Government
I'm really lost, because June 15 as passed and the Iraki government has not show any signs that they would be pushing to extend the resolution futher than dec 2008.

Independent World Political Experts and Observers are very surprised to hear Long Term Plans of both US Presidential Nominees on
American military presence in Iraq! What kind of Senators and Foreign Policy,Natonal Security Experts are they? Did they know that USA had invited UN to handle Everything in Iraq and received short term UN mandate on presence US troops in Iraq? Did they know, that UN mandate expires in December 2008 and under International Laws further presence US troops in Iraq is not permitted! Nobody invites USA to stay in Iraq!
The american people are very misinformed about this. We need understand why this is not getting more attention. Basically the Iraqui paliament is planning on kicking out the U.S forces.
While most observers are focused on the U.S. Congress as it continues to issue new rubber stamps to legitimize Bush's permanent designs on Iraq, nationalists in the Iraqi parliament -- now representing a majority of the body -- continue to make progress toward bringing an end to their country's occupation.
The parliament today passed a binding resolution that will guarantee lawmakers an opportunity to block the extension of the U.N. mandate under which coalition troops now remain in Iraq when it comes up for renewal in December.
Why does this matter? Probably because
the U.N. mandate confers an aura of legitimacy on the continuing presence of foreign troops on Iraq's streets, even four years after the fall of Saddam
Hussein.
I wonder if America still cares.
The rest of the world is trying to send a message here, Get The F¨¨¨Out of there.
Do not forget that the Iraquis are having an election in 2009. Let's say that been favorable to the occupation is not very popular right now...
I would be glad if someone could clarify the whole thing. I'm not an expert on this stuff, but what i've found got me worried. I'm puzzled by why this is being ignored.

Update: The first 3 minutes are a must see.
I'm starting to believe that The Iraqui prime minister is playing both sides.
