After the debacle of the 2000 election my hatred for Ralph Nader and his supporters was unparalleled. We all know that Gore would have won Florida easily if Nader hadn’t been on the ticket. It seemed unbelievable that he could be so self centered as to let the nation fall into the hands of that moron G.W. when he always knew he never had the slightest chance of winning. After the election I remember very clearly him saying that it was ok for Bush to win because "things had to get worse" before someone like him could win the presidency (Washington Post article quoting Nader).
More after the fold
What a jackass. He was willing to sacrifice this country for some abstract hope that it would lead to a better country in some distant future.
Well, after 8 years, more than a trillion dollars, over 4,000 American lives, and 100’s of thousand Iraqi lives, turns out he was right.
Not to count my chickens before they are hatched, but we are on the verge of electing the most inspirational leader since JFK who could possibly truly change this country for the better. But the questions remains... Was it worth it Ralph?
I would expect if you’re a family member of the 100’s of thousands of casualties of the "War on Terror" then the answer is a resounding NO.
Or if you’re an innocent detainees at Guantanamo Bay (Judge orders 17 detanees freed) , you’re probably wishing Bush had never been elected.
I’m sure there are countless others who’s lives have been irreparably damaged (not to mention the environment) by the last 8 years of republican rule.
So again I ask.. Was it worth it?
Maybe. If the democrats can take the mandate that is being given to them, shut out the lobbyist, and act in the interest ‘real Americans’ who want and deserve peace, affordable education and health care. And when you consider the lives that may be saved by the change in foreign policy. Then yes it may have been worth it.
