UPDATE III: For those who think I am fear mongering, that's not the intent here. What I am doing is wondering the the four incidents described are connected by some whacko or whackos to influence the race. The WKU update appears to be totally unrelated, but I don't know about the others. Even false threats like baby powder mail and bomb threats with no bombs can still terrorize and impact the election.
UPDATE IV: The Treasury Department in Jersey City, NJ also got suspicious powder in the mail.
Earlier today we noted that a number of Chase banks had been sent envelopes with suspicious powders in them over the past few days. The envelopes came, apparently, from Texas.
Then it turns out that since Monday about a half dozen Congressional offices have been the victim of bomb threats. And now today the New York Times is being partially evacuated due to suspected anthrax.
Also earlier this week al Qaeda members posted on a website (DKos version from Lefty Coaster) that they wanted McCain to win because it would further their goals of creating instability, and noted that terror attacks would help him win.
Is this the beginning of an effort to destabilize the country in advance of the election, to scare people into forgetting about the economy and back into the GOP arms? Even if the bomb threats are empty and the powder is harmless (it appears to be so) this could still be an effort to remind America that Big Daddy McCain will save us all.
Or is is a series of unrelated events by assholes?
UPDATE: Now it appears that the Western Kentucky University is on lockdown (word is it's all clear now) after shots were fired at their main campus and people with guns were reported at a satelite campus.
UPDATE II: These all appear to be false threats, but the convergence of four separate incidents seems to be a little weird for my taste.
