My ex and I have been divorced for 7 years now, but get along very well, especially as it relates to our 3 kids. She called to let me know that she was taking our youngest to the Urgent Care for a sore throat.
She told me how she had been talking to a teacher from Ireland who was astounded that we Americans have to pay for health care and have to forego physicals and tests because we can't afford even the deductibles if we are fortunate enough to have insurance.
Seeing my opportunity, I made the remark that NOBODY would have employer-provided health insurance if McCain were elected. Everyone would be on his or her own with that piddly $5000 "credit" which would go straight to the insurance company.
We continued talking. She is very cynical about all politicians at this point, saying that one is just as bad as the other. (And to an extent I agree with her.) She was a Hillary fan, mainly due to her health care proposals.
I told her I used to think that it didn't make much difference to us normal folks who occupied the White House, but that the last 8 years changed my mind. I told her that while that person may not be able to deliver any or all his (or her) campaign promises, "the wrong person in there can do a great deal of damage." She agreed with that.
In the end she said that she would be voting for Obama, not because she was a supporter, but that he would be the lesser of two evils.
I told her a vote is a vote and it doesn't matter why the person casts it. I will take that vote for Barack. (BTW, we live in red-soon-to-be-blue North Carolina.)
So, as my first diary, I thought I would share my experience in "phone banking" with my fellow Kossacks.
