Wasn't it just yesterday or the day before that it was announced that McCain was cutting back in Colorado, and other states, in order to concentrate on Pennsylvania?
Apparently, that "strategery" isn't working out too well. TPM has the scoop.
McCain has dramatically slashed his ad spending in Wisconsin and New Hampshire and reduced it in Pennsylvania, suggesting that he's either losing hope or giving up hope in winning in three states that went for John Kerry in 2004, or that he doesn't have ample enough resources for them.
* McCain has cut ad spending in Pennsylvania, running 284 spots this past Monday, down from 336 the previous week.
* McCain has increased his spending in Florida, a battleground that McCain was supposed to win without too much trouble, running 339 spots this past Monday, versus 311 the previous week.
* McCain has boosted his spending in Virginia, long reliably red but trending blue, running 182 spots this past Monday, up from 169 the previous week.
The alleged reason for the cutback in some of the states where he is cutting is that there's no airtime to buy, because of all of Obama's previous purchases of airtime. Well, okay, that's misleading. Not just Obama, but some of the local races as well, have bought up almost all of the remaining air time, giving McCain fewer options as to where to spend his remaining monies.
Pennsylvania was a long shot, and maybe the whole strategy was to get Obama to spend more time/effort/money there.
But the real take-away from this story is simple.
The field is getting smaller, and McCain is running out of room.
