I am devoting this diary to call your attention to a batch of Congressional candidates. Several are incumbents trying to hand on to seats that potentially could be in some jeopardy.  Others are challngers to Republican seats, either open or against a challenger.

Each is someone I personally know.  That doesn't  make me special It is instead evidence about how personal each one is.

I am going to contribute, albeit nomimanlly given my limited income as a school teacher, to each person I list.

I am asking that you contribute, even if nominally, to as many as you can.

So below the fold is my list of people for whom I ask for your support, your money.

Eric Massa - running for a second time in the 29th District in New York.

Dan Maffei, another one running for a second time in NY, this time in an open seat in NY-25.

Nick Lampson in TX-22 - one of the "freshman" Democrats in some potential jeopardy, holding what was Tom Delay's seat. Nick is a former HS biology teacher, and both his wife and daughter are teachers

John Yarmuth - he's probably safe, even though Ann Northrup  is running to take back her House seat from him in KY-03

Charlie Brown in CA-04, running for a second time in what is now an open seat

Pat Murphy, who won narrowly last time in 8th CD of PA, and who was an early and strong advocate for Barack Obama.

Fellow hs social studies teacher Larry Kissell, running again against Robin Hayes in NC 8th.

Daniel Johnson, running a spirited race against the noxious (and closeted( Pat McHenry in NC 10.

Scott Kleeb - he lost a contested House race in Nebraska last the time, and despite the long odds has a shot at the open Nebraska Senate race.

Rick Noriega running for the TX Senate against John Cornun

Gary Peters - he is currently holding a lead in MI-09 against Joe Knollenberg, but the race is still competitive.

Tom Periello - I will spend this Saturday in the 5th CD on behalf of Tom in his race against the horrible Virgil Goode, Jr.

Judy Feder - she has a shot against Frank Wolf, her second run against him the the 10th CD of Virginia.

Barry Welsh running again against Mike Pence in IN-06.  Barry has never had money, but he he running a competitive race under the radar, and if he could get a little money has a real chance to knock off Mike Pence - in a state where Obama is doing far better than most people would have expected.

Jeff Merkley is a Senator we need from Oregon, running against Gordon Smith.

And of course Darcy Burner again in WA-08.

I'm sure you can add some people you know.  These are people I know, whom I respect, whom I would love to see in DC.  As would you.

All the links will take you to the home page of the candidate, so you can explore.  From there you can easily get to the place where you can contribute.

No, I don't have my own Act Blue page. Because it is not about me.  It is about these candidates, about the future of our nation, and thus about all of us.

Peace.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Remember, this election is a chance to really change our country, and for that to happen we will need all the Democrats we can get on both sides of the Hill.

I saw your comment here. Doug Tudor in FL-12 can knock out Adam Putnam, the 3rd Ranking Republican in Congress.

I just wrote an extensive diary, explaining the 25-years of service Doug has given to this country in the US Navy, and so much more. Please check out my diary, and contribute if you can. He is so close to the mark well the DCCC will pay attention to him.

  •  out in California (10+ / 0-)

I would point your attention to three more competitive races:

CA-46: Debbie Cook.  An excellent environmentalist and mayor of Huntington Beach, running against Crazy Dana Rohrabacher

CA-3: Right next door to Charlie Brown is Bill Durston, who has a real shot at taking out Dan Lungren.

CA-50: Brian Billbrae's district in North San Diego County, which disappointed us twice when Francine Busby lost.  But lateest polling has it neck and neck between him and his sensible, down-to-earth Democratic opponent, Nick Leibham.  Nick has recently been added to the DCCC red to blue list.

oops. I hope the gate wasn't too expensive.

We need to work on giving Obama a Congress to work with him, not against him.

They've spent enough time facilitating madness; now, they can go do some good for the rest of us!

Tudor in FL-12 to the list? He is trying to defeat Adam Putnam, the 3rd ranking Republican in Congress and isn't getting any attention by the front-page posters here because there are no polls to prove that he can win his race. But, he can. I just wrote an extensive diary pleading for donations because with just a little more $3,400 he can break the $100,000 raised from non-candidate contributions, and get the notice of the DCCC for the final push.

that is why I encouraged others to add comments on behalf of others.  One has already been added on behalf of Tudor, near the top of the thread.

It would help all of them were this diary to get more visibility, but of course I have no control over that.

I have written this diary, I will make my final round of contributions, and I can only ask that others consider what they can do.

Bill Hedrick, educator, is our best chance in a long time to get rid of Ken Calvert, one of the 20 most corrupt members of Congress (according to CREW).

He is running mostly a grassroots campaign, and any little bit will help at this point.  He is on Dean's DFA list as well.

Go to his webpage and help him out.

    races.

It's an interesting (and entirely frustrating) dynamic that has developed on this site, where the only races that receive any real degree of attention by the community--and by this I mean both in terms of dollars and even comments--are those that have been deemed worthy by Markos and/or the contributing editors. (Bachmann was an exception, but under those circumstances she's the exception that proves the rule.)

Sadly, this comes at the expense of others who could benefit a great deal from increased attention and contributions from the folks posting here.

Oh, well, it is what it is.

what will have to be nominal contributions, but I want to do what I can.

I wish this would, on their behalf, get more visibility

and I will be happy to recommend any diary at this point that focuses on our House, Senate, state and local races.

This election is an opportunity for sweeping change, and we should maximize what we can from the opportunity.

First off, your nod to Barry Welsh is fantastic. But given the extraordinary fact that my fair state is now considered a SWING state (!) - there are a few more pickup chances flying under the radar:

IN-03: Mike Montagano is running a strong campaign against perennial douchebag and Bachmann acolyte Mark Souder.  I feel like this is our strongest pickup opportunity in the state.

    IN-04:
Nels Ackerson is running a similarly strong campaign against a petulant, whiny Steve Buyer.

    IN-05:
It's no secret that most folks hate incumbent Republican Dan Burton.  But when the conservative editorial board of the Indianapolis Star gets into the act, I consider that a pickup opportunity.

Help out our races here in Indiana!  Help us push the state over the edge into BLUE territory!

  •  Patrick Murphy rocks! (0+ / 0-)

He's my rep, and his opponent is running a McCainesque sleaze campaign. It comes across as really, really tacky when contrast with Murphy's broad popularity and uplifting ad spots. Thanks for this diary!

    teacherken, Lady Libertine

I'm glad you included Nick Lampson - keeping that seat would be part of the whole "break their spirit" thing. There's another seat in Texas, the 10th District. LBJ's old seat is held by a super rich, total Republican tool, and we can beat him. Larry Joe Doherty has polled within striking distance of Mike McCaul, and I'd really like to have a decent representative for once. Here's Larry Joe's Act Blue page: http://www.actblue.com/...

Coryn has some good new ads, I just saw another one this morning. Sheesh, you would hardly know he's a Republican, until he said "taxes".

I got a robocall yesterday to tell me that theres a DNC Rally w Rick Noriega on Saturday Oct 25 at Moody Park (Houston Early Vote location, as well as mine!) I think the time was 11 a.m.

All of these downtickets are important,of course, but I have a special hope for any that are SENATE races.

oh here's the flyer for tomorrows event.  (I live in the bario basically!)

We will end it by telling the truth - forcefully, repeatedly, confidently - and by trusting that the American people will embrace the need for change. 5/6/08

  •  Final plea? (0+ / 0-)

Come one, there's still plenty of time left before Nov 2nd - let's get greedy and take as many seats on the Hill as possible!  (More and better, right?)  In other words, please, please, keep on pleading for more people to pay attention to the downticket races all the way until the polls close!  (And after for that matter, to pay off courageous candidates' debts too.)

Not to mention a week and a half left remaining for canvassing, virtual phonebanking, and GOTV efforts...

I for one plan to keep on pleading and keep on pushing through until the polls close!

    •  my final plea (0+ / 0-)

      at least on this topic

if I have time to write, it will be on on other issues

and for many candidates, they will be planning their final media buys based on what has come in by the end of today.

but we are hoping Hal Bidlack in CO CD5 (Colorado Springs) will come close enough that he is willing to run again.  This district is dominate by Colorado Springs which is in turn dominated by the military and religious right.  Bidlack is a Lt Col with a PhD in history who taught at the AF Academy, also in C Spgs.
