No, No, not Mitt Romney, sorry. (We don't want his endorsement anyway.)
No, it is the original moderate Massachusetts Republican GovernorWilliam Weld
In today's Boston Globe, Weld announces he is endorsing Obama for President:
"Senator Obama is a once-in-a-lifetime candidate who will transform our politics and restore America's standing in the world," Weld said in a statement released Friday. "We need a president who will lead based on our common values and Senator Obama demonstrates an ability to unite and inspire.
"Throughout this campaign I've watched his steady leadership through trying times and I'm confident he is the best candidate to move our country forward,"
So, now wait for Republican's to dismiss Weld's endorsement, as meaningless. They'll say that Weld just wants to get even for Republican's blocking his nomination as Ambassador to Mexico back by President Bill Clinton.
Yes, President Clinton nominated a Republican and the nomination was blocked in the Senate by Jesse Helms who,
who refused to hold talks on the nomination, effectively blocking it. Though both were Republicans and though that party held the majority in the chamber, Helms objected to Weld's moderate stance on several social issues. This refusal to hold hearings was also rumored to be at the request of former attorney general and friend of Helms, Ed Meese. Meese had a long standing grudge against Weld stemming from Weld's investigation of Meese during Iran Contra.
William Weld knew how to truely work in a bi-partisan manner. He had too, having to work with the overwhelmingly Democratic controlled Massachusetts Legislature.
He knows that only candidate that is truely capable of reaching across the isle is Barack Obama!
Apparently Weld will hold a news conference at Obama's Salem, N.H. office today at 11 AM.
UPDATED: Corrected 11 AM press conference location to Salem, New Hampshire.
Also, I forgot to mention Weld was appointed as a U.S. Attorney by Conservative Saint, Ronald Reagan! :-)
