This election cycle will go into the annals of U.S. history as one of the more bizarre constructs I've ever witnessed. The GOP narrative has been demonstrated as one of abject failure. The wreckage is evident on Wall Street for everyone to see.
Let's see now, the last 8 years of RNC ideology has brought us the following:
- Failure to intervene and thwart the 9/11 attack.
- Lying the country into an ill-advised and fraudulent war in Iraq, lying about weapons of mass destruction to the American People, creating the kind of chaos that covers massive theft from the US Treasury on a scale Croesus of Lydia could only dream of.
- The dismal response to hurricane Katrina.
- The current economic collapse and the botched handling of troubling early indicators. (Nobel economics prize winner, Princeton University professor and scholar, and columnist for the NY Times, Dr. Paul Krugman has been harping on these issues for at least 3 years.)
DAN RATHER REPORTS over at HDNet had an in depth and informative interview with Dr. Krugman last Tuesday night. http://www.hd.net/...
That makes the cheney/bush regime four flush losers. ANY one of these four events alone would qualify the sitting executive as a candidate for worst President* ever.
*My personal disregard of the integrity of the '00 and '04 elections notwithstanding.
"It is no longer morally or intellectually possible for any sane person to vote for any republican at this point." -Christopher Hitchens, HARDBALL of MSNBC on 24 October '08.
This latest incident involving a personality disordered person to submit a false police statement to the effect that a 'large black man' had attacked her at an ATM, and carved a backwards letter 'B' on her cheek. Obviously this individual doesn't even understand mirrors. This story was dutifully trumpeted by the usual right wing outlet suspects, Fox 'News' most notably, although even they inserted the caveat that if it were to be found a hoax, then the entire McCain campaign is over.
Christopher Hitchens went on to make the point that Senator McCain had aged visibly since last January. Hitchens went on to state that Senator McCain is beyond any real usefulness at this point. I concur with that assessment. Senator McCain doesn't look long for this world. It's sad, it's unfortunate, but time has caught up with him. I think he's delusional now. His campaign ideas are inconsistent, erratic, and self contradictory. Senator McCain has referred to his crowd recently as 'My fellow prisoners'. I think McCain if elected would represent a substantial threat to national security. Should McCain have to vacate the office prematurely, the Palin prospect is even more appalling. Fortunately, that prospect appears increasingly remote daily.
The entire GOP brand will need major surgery if it is to survive at all. Its appeal has been reduced to the redneck reactionary xian fundamentalist demographic. That's not the future for the U.S. apparent to anyone paying attention to U.S. demographic trends.
The rational members of the republican party to the extent there are any left, notably, former Massachusetts Governor William Weld, Christopher Buckley, and Andrew Sullivan, among others; all republicans, have endorsed Senator Obama.
The Palin demographic of true believers I referenced above will find themselves isolated. The xenophobes, racists, anti-intellectuals, the true believers, xian fundamentalist demographic of the GOP is incompatible with a civilized and rational society. The best case scenario involves that demographic in a rump Party, unto itself, and a well deserved obscurity.
