If it has not been clear before, it should be clear now. Bush's agenda is to gut the government as an angler guts his recent catch. His actions have attempted to or been successful at removing much of good government. Here are some examples of the disembowelment:
More below the fold:
* Cutting taxes for the rich. Those tax cuts mean the rest of the government has less to work with. Trickle-down is voodoo economics.
* Starting a war in Iraq. This has diverted >>$100B of US assets out of the government coffers. (Much of it to the military-industrial complex.) Hmm. Fix education or attack another nation?
* Consistently appointing cronies instead of the right people. This makes government function poorly, erodes people's trust for government, and facilitates further cuts.
* Attempted to gut social security. Had he been successful, we would have had another reason to complain about government and he would have put more money in the hands of industry.
* Appointed John Roberts, a pro-business conservative, to the high court. Roberts' selection of cases for the Supreme Court will continue to weaken the role of government.
* Endorse school vouchers. Take money away from pubic education and put it into private hands.
* Weaken the Clean Air Act
* Opening up oil exploration in our national parks.
The Miers nomination is just another example. Miers, yet another crony, will be easy to control. Since she's not intellectually strong like most of the other justices (excluding Thomas). Roberts should be able to control her. Roberts "pro business" agenda will proceed unchecked and government will continue to shrivel.
Our government must play a role regulating business, protecting the environment, and propping up the less fortunate. If government cannot do these things, then the country, at best, will become a miserable place to live or, at worst, cease to exist.
