After her failed attempts to blame her McCarthyist rant on Chris Matthews, the liberal bloggers (that's us!) and her own stupidity (well, she got that one right), and her laughably failed attempt to deny saying what she said, Michele Bachmann is now in serious damage control mode, as evidenced by her new ad. In the ad, Bachmann gives a lame non-apology apology and actually continues her divisive McCarthyist language, although a bit more thinly veiled this time. The ad pisses me off more than ever, and I want to send HER a message of my own. Yes, Bachmann is a bit down in the polls, but certainly not out. Can we give one last push to help ensure she never returns to Washington? Yes we can!
In the ad, Bachmann continues her anti-American theme, just with prettier words this time:
"Once again, our nation is at a crossroads, and it's a time for choosing. We can embrace government as the answer to our problems, or we could chose freedom and liberty."
Freedom and liberty? So, I guess that would make her opponent, and by extension all the Democrats, against freedom and liberty? Those are two awfully powerful words, which are intended, of course, to stir up patriotic feelings in voters. Bachmann's message is clear: If you're "pro-America," you need to vote for me.
Then there's her non-apology apology in the ad:
"I may not always get my words right, but I know that my heart is right. Because my heart is for you, for your children, and for the blessings of liberty to remain for our great country."
Hmmm. There's that word "liberty" again. The not-so-subtle dog whistle: If you love our country and all of our liberties, you must vote for me. My opponent is a commie socialist who hates America.
And of course, Bachmann still does not apologize for her hateful, divisive statements. She was confused and mixed up. The words just came out wrong, got misunderstood.
Ms. Bachman, you could not have seemed more clear in trying to get your words out right when you stated, "Absolutely. I'm very concerned that (Obama) may have anti-American views." And you seemed very level-headed and unambiguous when you called for a "penetrating expose" of "the views of the people in Congress and find out if they are pro-America or anti-America." Exactly which words got jumbled around there?
My fellow kossacks, can you help me give one last push to elect El Tinklenberg? Please go to my new, first-ever ActBlue page, Pro-America Bloggers for Tinklenberg, and if you can spare it contribute just $10.03 ($1 for each of the 10 days remaining) to dump Michele Bachmann. Send Michele Bachmann a strong message that her continued divisive, McCarthyist language and tactics have no place in American politics. Help elect El Tinklenberg and help bring decency, competence and true patriotism back to MN-06's House seat.
And if you can spare it, I'm also urging people help get rid of the other two House members I find as highly offensive as Michele Bachmann - Marilyn Musgrave (CO-04) and Robin Hayes (NC-08) - by contributing an additional $10.03 to each of their Democratic challengers and saying NO to fear, hate and divisiveness:
Elect Betsy Markey, CO-04
Elect Larry Kissel, NC-08
And of course, the final part of my four-part fundraising pitch: $10.03 for Barack Obama. (If you donate today, you'll get a Special Edition 5" Obama/Biden car magnet that will be a wonderful keepsake of the campaign!)
This is the first time I've ever done a fundraising pitch on DailyKos (although I've participated in many of them!). I feel strongly that we're so close to making some real, positive change in this country, so now is the time for all of us to try to find a little extra "change" under the sofa to help make that happen. It's now or never. Seriously.
I'll leave you with a little musical enjoyment: "What's the word? Tinklenberg"
