I guess maybe I've never been as impressed with Rahm Emanuel as I've been told I should be. His appearance today with Lindsay Graham on ABC news didn't change my opinion at all.
Here is the interview from this morning if you haven't seen it:
ABC interview
First off, instead of defending Obama's policies against Graham's attacks, he goes off trying to defend the Democratic Congress. Is it me or isn't he on the program to be an advocate for Obama not to promote or defend his own butt. In Rahm's words, Obama's middle class tax cuts become the Democratic middle class tax cut, tying Obama's policies with the Congress (not a good move -- the general public does not have a favorable opinion of the Congress as a whole).
I also don't understand why the Obama advocates can not defend Obama when the McCain camp starts throwing out the misinformation that Obama has changed his tax position from tax cuts for those under 250k to those under 200k. I may have missed something but it seems to me that nothing has changed. Before it was said no one making under 250k would have their taxes raised, and now the statement is that everyone making under 200k will be getting a tax cut. The two are not mutually exclusive, it just means those making between 200k and 250k will have their taxes remain the same. This is the second time that I have heard the McCain advocates making this claim without being challenged by the Obama camp. Did I miss something? Has Obama actually changed his plan? If not, why don't the Obama people fight back when this lie is put forward?
I really hope Emanuel doesn't become chief of staff. I'd really like to see Obama be more creative than that. It really appeared to me that Emanuel was being more of an advocate for himself and the Democratic party rather than for Obama this morning. I may be biased since I don't care for him but that is the way I saw it.
