A tale where I try to debate against fiction.
So, I have convinced my mom to vote for Obama. And my dad. Two points!
But then, I began speaking to a friend of my mom's, and began making the case for Obama. And she launches into "Well, Sarah Palin has more experience than...'' As I prepared to give a response to the usual Republican talking points on Obama, my breath was taken away by her next two words "...Joe Biden.''
I stopped, stunned. "What?" I asked. "What in the world are you talking about?''
"Well, she has more executive experience than Jpe Biden.''
I thought for a second. "So does that mean you wouldn't vote for someone without executive experience?''
"Of course not. They wouldn't be qualified to be president.''
"You're sure?''
"Of course not.''
"So you wouldn't vote for any Senator without executive experience.''
"No,
"John McCain is a Senator. He has no executive experience.''
"Of course he does.''
Pause. "From what?''
"well, he was a prisoner of war.''
Before you write this person off as stupid, she is not. She is just a Texas brainwashed Republican. Maybe this is why the Democrats have to write off Texas every year -- the level of rationalization is breathtaking.
So...what do you say in Texas when faced with such irrationality? How, in the long term, do we crack this rock? Or is it simply impossible?
