With momentum skyrocketing in our race to unseat the Michele Bachmann of the East, Scott Garrett, Dennis spent yesterday meeting voters throughout NJ-5. And the bottom line, no matter where we go, is that people are sick and tired of their representative continually putting ideology before pragmatism...
We kicked off our morning with hundreds of Bergen County residents at the annual Memory Walk in Paramus’ Van Saun Park. Every year, this walk brings together countless New Jerseyans to raise thousands of dollars for Alzheimer’s research. The walkers know that with the proper determination and funding we can - and we will - find a cure for this horrible disease that will effect one out of eight Baby Boomers and is the sixth-largest cause of death in America. Yet our “representative” not only consistently opposes the stem cell research that will lead us to this cure; he also considers such research “immoral”. Scott, I’ll tell you what’s immoral: letting your radical right-wing ideology trump the pragmatic policies needed to save lives and move our country forward.
From Paramus, we headed west to Franklin Borough in Sussex County for their annual Halloween Parade and Costume Contest. In what can only be described as one of the most amazing moments of the campaign, the blind rabbi himself was asked to judge the costume contest:
But what was even more amazing to us was the warm welcome and broad support we received from the countless Sussex residents we met. Sussex County, which includes the 9.88 acres of Garrett’s fake farm, has always been considered a GOP stronghold. But with foreclosure rates soaring and small businesses struggling, even the most Republican of Republicans are sick of Garrett’s corruption and are looking for a change. And we’re ready to give them just that, with full field operations on the ground and ready to get out the vote in all four of NJ-5’s counties.
In keeping with the Halloween spirit, we then headed to the “Zoo Boo” festival at the Bergen County Zoo to meet the many young families in NJ-5 whose access to properly funded and intelligent design-free public education Garrett so desperately wants to destroy. We wrapped up the day with a house party in Haworth and a candidate forum in Wanaque (Passaic County), where Dennis discussed his sensible solutions to the myriad problems facing Northern New Jerseyans.
All across the district, voters are realizing what one of the folks we met in Wanaque so perfectly said: “Garrett is opposed to everything I’m for.” But we need your help to keep spreading this message. Please give whatever you can here; and if you’re in the tri-state area, please join us in the homestretch by signing up to volunteer here.
Garrett has consistently let his politics and ideology trump pragmatism…but we’re inches away from restoring the sensible leadership to NJ-5 that will put pragmatic and moral policies before such petty politics and ideology. And we can’t do it without you!
Thanks,
Amy Spitalnick
