I kid you not. I'm in Tallahassee, and I just got a robo-call from Saxby Chambliss, virtual hat in hand, "humbly" asking for my vote. (I admit that it felt good to yell at the recording, "When have you ever been humble, you manipulative, arrogant asshole?") I listened to him far more carefully than he ever listened to me when I've written him in the past about various issues of importance to the residents of Georgia and the country. (We lived in Georgia in 2007, so conceivably we could still be listed in the RNC database as still being there--although I know for sure we were officially taken off the voter rolls because we got a letter when we moved here. You would not believe the obnoxiousness of the "response" emails I got from him every time I took the time to write his office.)
While I was listening to the robo-call, aware that as I did so I was tying up the line so somebody else had to wait for the privilege of hearing from him...
I was thinking "Gee, does he think he's being cutting-edge hip calling a cell phone, given that our area code is 850? Is he trying to capture the cross-over folks who travel back and forth from North Florida into Georgia, and vice versa, depending on which state has the cheapest gas or booze or the best lottery jackpot at any given time? Does he think the old folks in Florida will talk to their families in Georgia and tell them how important it is to go vote for his manipulative, arrogant asshole self? Or is the ground game of the RNC really that last-minute desperately bad?"
And I wondered how many of you have received robo-calls from freaked-out down-ticket Republicans from other states.... I tell you, people, this is the best laugh I've had all week, so I just had to share!
Go Saxby! Woof! Woof! Woof!
UPDATE: And NOW a robo-call against Jim Martin, partial birth abortion nonsense. I didn't catch the name of the group (sounded like some 527), but it wasn't Chambliss...some judge, a woman's insistent voice about how Jim Martin supports partial birth abortion. And, of course, because (again) I'm in Florida and apparently mistakenly on Chambliss' (RNC?) call list, it appears that either this is coming out of the Chambliss campaign or they are disseminating their call list to this group.
I sure do wish somebody could catch them if they are sharing lists with 527s or making these calls themselves, masquerading as an independent group. That's not supposed to be allowed, is it?
***Update again***
Okay, I'm getting bored now with the "Obama wants to kill babies" robocalls. Today I got a new one: Obama is so very, very dangerously inexperienced, and he wants to give CIVIL RIGHTS to TERRORISTS!!! This to Tallahassee, FL. I lost count of the robocalls at seven, but this new one is the first I've heard like this. I just hope this backfires extremely badly on the McCain campaign and Republican party.
