I've been obsessed with this race for two reasons: 1) John Shadegg is the GOP's topmost conservative in the House, the guy conservative bloggers and publications endorsed for House Minority leader last year, the guy who helped orchestrate the "drill, baby, drill" theatrics in the empty House chamber a few months ago, while Congress was in recess. If you want to decapitate the Republican leadership, he's our best target in the House. And 2) this was John McCain's old House seat. I want to rub salt in their wounds.
The DCCC is now in big in this district.
Months ago Washington prognosticators filed Mr. Shadegg, 59, a proud member of the Republican class of 1994 that swept to power on a reform platform, in the safe column. But now in the closing weeks, even he acknowledges that he is in a competitive race as national Democrats have poured $1.5 million — among the highest in their nationwide efforts — into unseating him.
The DCCC thinks it's winnable, and it is. While our latest poll on the race gave Shadegg a 50-40 advantage, Lord actually leads among early voters 54-44. That points to higher intensity among Democratic voters, and it's an advantage we need to push to close out this race. So here's what we need to do.
Check out Lord's latest ad for the race:
Lord has purchased 500 points of TV for this ad. Shadegg has bough 1,100 points. (Description of what "points" means here.) The DCCC's efforts help combat the NRCC and third-party efforts, but Lord needs to deliver his own message. So let's help Lord close the gap. It costs $100,000 for an additional 300 points.
I believe we can cover a nice chunk of that.
Lord is currently at $58,000 on our O2B ActBlue page. If you want to see the folks at your favorite wingnut sites really cry on Election Night, then let's get Lord to $100,000 by the end of the week. Not that I can afford it anymore (who can?), but I'm in for another $250.
Join me, and let's make wingnuts cry.
