If he chooses not to, Dole must push for expulsion
Republican Presidential Candidate John McCain (R-AZ) today called on convicted felon Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) to resign from the Senate, sparing the Republicans any further embarrassment just days before the election.
Kay Hagan’s U.S. Senate Campaign called on Elizabeth Dole to join McCain in calling for Stevens’ resignation, and if he chooses to keep his seat, Elizabeth Dole should push for Stevens’ expulsion.
"Ted Stevens is a convicted felon, and Elizabeth Dole thinks it’s acceptable for him to continue to vote on the Senate floor on behalf of Alaskans and Americans," asked Hagan Campaign Communications Director Colleen Flanagan. "On issues ranging from shoring up our economy to increasing accessibility to health care to forging a sensible energy policy and particularly strengthening Congressional ethics accountability, Stevens has absolutely no credibility and must immediately resign his seat. Two years ago, as the chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, Dole attacked a senator who was under investigation. Stevens’ case has gone far beyond an investigation and he is now a convicted felon. Dole must join her fellow Republican colleagues calling for Stevens’ resignation. If he does not resign, she must call for his expulsion. The American people have had enough of this kind of corrupt Washington culture at their expense. Dole must put aside politics and finally act on behalf of the people she was elected to represent."
