As more Valley car dealerships buckle under the nation's economic crisis, John Shadegg votes against much-needed unemployment benefits during a time of mass layoffs.
This month, Shadegg was one of only 28 U.S. House representatives to vote against the Unemployment Compensation Extension Act of 2008. The act will provide seven extra weeks of payments to workers who have exhausted their benefits.
When families are struggling to get by and new job losses are announced almost every day, you have to ask, what is John Shadegg thinking? Shadegg is out of touch with Arizona families struggling in George Bush's economy. After voting for Bush's failed economic policies, Shadegg voted against extending unemployment benefits to recently laid off Arizonans. In these tough times, Arizona families can't afford John Shadegg. I will put principle above party for the people of Arizona.
Shadegg voted against the act just days after auto dealer Bill Heard Enterprises Inc. announced it would close 13 dealerships nationwide, including a prominent Valley dealership. (See story.)
Two Power dealerships then closed, including Power Chevrolet in District 3 and Power Pontiac/Buick/GMC in neighboring Scottsdale. (See story.)
In the face of tough economic challenges like these, Shadegg just doesn't know better or doesn't care.
Just this year:
Shadegg voted against the Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act (H.R. 5749) twice in June. The bill passed the House and provides economic relief for Americans looking for work by extending unemployment insurance.
Shadegg voted against the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act in May and again in September even after he told Arizona's largest newspaper that he would support the solar tax credits within it. Shadegg voted against creating thousands of new jobs here in Arizona. See vote.
Thanks for your support,
Bob
