Bowen on ActBlue.
New YouTube ad from Democrat Morgan Bowen (UT-01), injecting a bit of humor into what has been a very contentious race: How to Buy a Congressman.
As I've written here before, Bowen is making headway against Bishop, attacking Bishop's campaign contributions, and millions in earmarks garnered for a California based software firm who have donated $80,000 to his re-election bid.
Bishop's response unfortunately tickles the faux-libertarian sentiment prevalent throughout the state. On everything from the importation of radioactive waste to his committee membership, Bishop has been successful at narrowing the debate to talking points, using "national security" when discussing government contracts, and "state's rights" to defend his lack of accomplishment.
In the final month of this race, Bowen has finally gotten notice from state Democratic leadership - due in most part to his aggressive campaign - who have until now distanced themselves from his campaign, as they preferred a failed plan to "buy a Republican" for the district, offering campaign money to a Republican candidate willing to switch tickets and run.
For name recognition and media attention, the increased enthusiasm of the party leaders was well timed. Unfortunately, it comes too late to help Bowen much with important funding in the final week.
This is going to be up to small donors throughout the state to push Morgan over the top. There is still time for aggressive radio and television spots. Enjoy the video, and please give what you can as soon as you can.
