This is not a "concern" trollish comment so please don't go there...
I am finding it quite interesting that McCain has stooped to stealing Obama's logo for his "It's not 2004" pitch as well as his new part-time slogan (from "Change We Can Believe In" to "A Leader We Can Believe In.") This is moving from past desparate through pathetic to archly comic. As Palin is being called a "whack job", the campaign is in such disarray that it is stealing the window dressing that has worked for Obama.
This attempt to coopt, however hamhandedly, the image and message that Obama has so successfully cratfted only serves to demonsrate not only the depths to which the campaign is willing to plumb morally, but the absolute intellectual bankruptcy of its core messaging machine.
In my parnoid moments I do worry a bit about the GOTV and voter suppression issues and I know we need to push to the end, but I have to say that I will be glad when this sorry saga is over.
Honestly, while I am life long Democrat, I value the importance of vigorous debate on important issues. Our country's politics has often been about managing polarities and honest, thoughtful debate is important to that process. It is something that happens too rarely in our political discourse. For years the Dems were the underdogs and could not find their voice. Now the Repugs can't find theirs. I am, in one sense, quite pleased that this is the case in this cyle, largely becuase I think we need remarkably strong Democratic leadership to steer this country though the next few years, but I also admit to a bit of disappointment that this Republican campaign was not about ideas, but rather gimmicks and razzle-dazzle. The American public deserved better. Ah well....
