The Republicans have come up with many, many means of pushing sleazy and slimy campaigning. They're the acknowledged worldwide masters at it. They've advised the Canadian and British Tories, Australia's "Liberals", better known as the Howard Coalition, and Israel's Likud in the art of peddling slime. But with each new election cycle, they scrape deeper into the barrel. And the number of constructive policies declines in inverse relationship to the amount of slime they scoop up.
Not content with reaching the adults directly with this slime, now they're starting on using the kiddies as unwitting carrier pigeons. Read on.
Down in the great state of Florida, Broward County Republicans have come up with a new idea for political campaigning.
Insert a three inch by four inch ad in kiddies' trick or treat bags that reads:
"Don't Make Every Day Halloween in America! Keep Barack Obama from using your hard earned dollars as his own personal "Trick or Treat" bag!"
Now it appears that other Florida Republicans are getting the idea too. An outfit calling itself "Women for McCain" is joining in what self-described chairwoman Sharon Day describes as "a fun way to show your support for John McCain and Sarah Palin while letting your neighbors know what a scary possibility Barack Obama would be."
I'm putting this out because first, I wonder how you would react to your child getting this in their trick or treat bag, and I wonder what the DKos community thinks. Is this a new way of getting undecided parents to think more like dittoheads? Or is it a local Republican Party trying to follow the instructions of their Master of the Dark Force, Steve Schmidt himself:
"Ready the gun. Aim by aligning the midfoot squarely in the gunsights -- you can see this because it's where your laces are. Fire!"
