Elizabeth Dole has a new ad attacking Kay Hagan for her association with the most despised minority in America - Atheists.

In open defiance of Article Six of the Constitution, there is indeed a religious test for public office in America. And, apparently associating with or taking money from Atheist Americans is adequate reason for disqualification for public Office.
It seems that most people in this country would rather their sister marry a terrorist than an atheist. And why? Is it because of the rampant atheist crime wave in America? Nope, can't be that because, while 10% of Americans do not believe in Bronze-age mythological deities, 99% if the people in prison do. A number, ironically, that reflects the religious mix in Congress.
No, it is merely a shockingly ignorant vestigial remnant of mindless bigotry from an age when the church had a license to kill and gleefully dispatched anyone who dared to ask questions.
The church did not merely wag a finger and issue stern warnings against non-believers - they hunted us for bounty for 1500 years.
It is no surprise that after being treated as the most craven, degenerate, and despicable humans imaginable for the better part of 2 millennia, that there are still lots of folks around that have a very low opinion of us.
Well, this Atheist is a Veteran, a patriot, a parent, a homeowner, a self-employed small business owner, an early Obama voter, and a fully enfranchised citizen of the United States.
We are your friends and your neighbors, your relatives, and your IT guys. The last thing we are, is deserving of blanket contempt merely for our inability to believe the ridiculous.
Sadly, it is the infestation of the republican party with christianist extremists which has largely contributed to the vicious political polarization of America. It is to be expected, when one group has god on their side, that they will be unreceptive to compromise. Why should they when they are taking instruction directly from godhisownself? It's kinda ironic how some of the most religious people in congress are some of the biggest bastards. This Reagan-facilitated hijacking of the republican party, by religious extremists with a yearning for theocracy, is now the wedge that will rend that once-great party in two.
Elizabeth Doles resort to these abhorrent tactics - the demonization of a whole class of law-abiding, contributing American citizens - is but another flagrant example of the hateful bigotry that is all too common and which rarely causes an eyebrow to be raised. But bigotry most foul it is.
