CROSSPOSTED AT STRATEGY08.
We're obviously in the home stretch here, and Flordia, while giving Obama a slight slight lead, is still very close and will likely be decided by a few points in either direction.
Senator Obama has been going full bore in Florida, spending much of his time this week in that crucial state. In addition, he's bringing Bill Clinton to Orlando for their first joint appearance.
Given the tight race there, it's great to see that he is bringing out all of the big guns:
Former Vice President Al Gore, the Democratic presidential contender in 2000, will be joined by his wife, Tipper Gore, at a rally for Barack Obama on Friday afternoon at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach.
Convention center officials announced the event today. It will be held in the Center's Grand Ballroom, and is expected to be limited to about 2,000 attendees.
West Palm Beach obviously brings back a bunch of bad memories, as confusing butterfly ballots moved a number of Al Gore votes over to Pat Buchanan, which would have won the election in 2000 outright and which probably would have saved us a lawsuit:
WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (CNN) -- Voters confused by Palm Beach County's butterfly ballot cost Al Gore the presidency, The Palm Beach Post concluded Sunday.
The newspaper's review of discarded ballots found Gore lost 6,607 votes when voters marked more than one name on the county's "butterfly ballot." A leading Republican called the finding "speculation."
Voters who marked Gore's name and that of another candidate totaled more than 10 times the winning margin Bush received to claim Florida's 25 electoral votes and the White House, the Post concluded. The newspaper said the result was "an indictment of the butterfly ballot, political experts and partisan observers agree."
Obviously, there is a bit of symbolism here, bringing Gore back to stump for Obama. Glad to see that Obama is putting the foot on the gas here and going all out!
